5 Lessons Learned By Not Writing For A Month

No, I haven’t given up

I haven’t written a single word in a month.

That’s a long time.

Life just got busy.

I just got back from a month long overseas trip. Not that there’s ever a good reason to stop writing but I simply let my other life get in the way of my writing life.

I feel guilty for not writing

I really do.

I like to think there are people who have missed my writing but I know that nobody is depending on my words to change their life especially since there are so many other sources of inspiration out there but I still feel like I’m doing a disservice by not writing.

There’s a sense of guilt that comes with knowing that I’m putting my writing on hold regardless of what my other life is throwing at me.

Perhaps the guilt is me telling me writing is what I should be doing.

You can be easily forgotten

If you’re not putting something out with your name on it regularly, you can easily be forgotten. Now, not everyone wants notoriety but if you’re an artist, chances are you want your work to be seen, read, and heard. And in today’s world of social media, blogs, and the millions of emerging creatives, it’s very easy to be forgotten because there’s always someone else to be inspired by.

If you create something great, people will still pay attention

On the flip side, if you create something great, people will still take notice.

Yes, I took a month off but I still managed to get new followers and people clapping and reading my past stories and me, myself, have found inspiration in other people’s works from years back.

It’s easy/hard to give up on your art

If you take a long enough break from your craft, that break can easily turn into forgotten dreams.

It can be easy to give up on your art for everything else that happens in life.

But it can also be really hard.
