Hi Okoro,

Thanks for reading and I’m so happy it’s motivated you to pick up your pen.

In terms of motivation — my opinion is you can’t rely on it to get you to write. Motivation comes and goes. What I suggest is start by setting a daily routine for yourself and set a goal, maybe you sit and write for 30 min or aim to write 300–1000 words. If you want to take writing seriously, you have to treat it like a job (but a fun job that you enjoy doing) and you show up everyday for a job. Start small but consistently.

I’m not sure if you mean your friends and family don’t read much and I wouldn’t generalize it to Nigerians as a whole because I don’t believe that’s true. It sounds like you just haven’t found the right audience yet. Your close friends and family will not be your target audience. I’ve found that the greatest supporters of my writing have been the people here on Medium so why not start writing your own stories here?

Hope that helps and thanks again for the support!
